Background

Over the last 18 years I have had diverse exposure to research, with social research as a foundation in 2005 as a Master’s student and research assistant at the University of Johannesburg. I then worked for Statistics South Africa’s Census Operations for five years, where I produced research tools, managed field research projects and was involved in the development of publications and statistical evidence to support government targets and policy making. I was then requested by the University of Johannesburg, to join the South African Research Chair in social change, where my qualitative research skills were needed to contribute a chapter to the award winning ‘Class in Soweto’, 2013 awarded the NIHSS award in non-fictional book title in 2016.
Transformation is a passion that I have been working closely on through an NGO I founded, Consciousness Café, since 2012. The Café is deeply rooted in a transformational dialogue method which necessitated intensive training for me as a facilitator of the dialogue process. It is concerned with change management and active citizenship – promoting personal accountability among individuals and groups.
I am a seasoned researcher and project manager, and have worked with a spread of research methodologies. I find it easy and enjoyable to maintain stakeholder relationships and have a great set of communication skills, even when having difficult conversations.
