Alec is an Associate Director at PwC and he is currently a Non-executive Director of the Leadership Academy for the Guardians of Governance and a past Director of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa. He is the past Deputy Governors of the Northern Cape and the Central Region Committees of the Institute of Internal Auditors. He is a past Chairperson/Treasurer of Childline Free State and is the current Treasurer of Childline South Africa. He is responsible for the overseeing of internal audit and enterprise risk management projects in the Western Cape and Lesotho. He is furthermore responsible for mentoring and development of staff members. He is a qualified and experienced External Quality Assurance reviewer and has been responsible for internal quality reviews of projects performed in the Internal Audit business of PwC. His experience includes work conducted in the internal and external audit environments with a number of years spent in the public sector. His focus is in the public sector, insurance and consumer goods industries.
Prior to joining PwC, he was employed in the public sector, Western Cape Department of Social Development, as the Head: Internal Controls. His role involved the establishment of financial and operational controls in the Department and to ensure that implemented controls are functioning properly and as intended by management including managing an internal control staff complement of up to 18 people. He represented the internal control department in the departmental forums including the audit committee and executive management. During his tenure at the Centre for Conflict Resolution, he served as chairman of the finance committee of the organisation. He has an excellent understanding of the issues and challenges facing the internal audit profession having worked for over 34 years in the internal audit, finance and public sector field. He holds a B Com and Hon B Compt degrees from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and the B Com (Hon) (Acc) degree from the University of Kwazulu-Natal.
